2020 -- featured on KUTX 'Love Austin Music Month' and 'Tribeza'

Posted on March 21, 2020 at 4:40 PM

I am very so sorry not to update news like ....2years! Here we are now in 2020, everyone quarantined from Covit 19 now

2018, and 19 had passed with light speed, Sarah Sharp got listed on Starbucks play list of 2019 fall, her song 'Phoebe's Dream' and 'For Your Love' were lotated in all the Starbucks shops in US. I don't know how many Starbucks in US but like hundreds or a thousand?

This year, started with tragedy, my Jazz at Noon pianist, great composer and my dear friend Rich Harney passed away suddenly, unexpectedly.

It still hasn't settled on my heart, I just can't believe it. But please rest in peace Rich, we are continued playing his tons of great compositions.

In February, I was featured in the video produced by KUTX 98.9 Austin TX with the Jitterbug Vipers, this was filmed early last year.

And, in March, I was included in the Tribeza magazine article of female drummers in Austin TX, too!

Now, we are all sealed at home at least until May 1st, when all the bars and restaurants reopen.

We just started streaming our shows from our home, like dozens of Austin local musicians, because of that Austin is the live music capital of the world, no live means no job, no income for us. Our patron organizatiin Black Fret started fundraising live stream show for us all.

Sarah Sharp got listed on last Thursday, we played in highly risk managed circumstance, outdoor stage of the Stoltz Garden.

please watch us here, we starts around 30 minutes from begining

And they are keep streaming for fundraising, keeping Austin as the Live music capital of the world. Please check thier website, watch how we are doing, become the Black Fret member!

On the other hand, my 'Masumi and the Gentlemen's residency at Lamberts ended the end of 2017, it had been goin on 6 years. I am very grateful. Thanks y'all!!

article about LuluFest on All About Jazz

Saturday June 3, 2017 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM

3001 S Congress Ave, Austin, Texas 78704

LuluFest Facebook page :

Ritenuto Foundation, Inc., in collaboration with the St. Edward’s University Music Department, is proud to announce its first annual Austin women-led band Festival: LuluFest, to be held on June 3rd, 2017, in the newly renovated Jones Auditorium, situated in the Ragsdale Center, on the St. Ed’s campus.

The focus of this one-day event (concerts and workshops) will be women bandleaders — both seasoned and up-and-coming, who are making their music the focus of their lives. The evening concert line-up is outstanding: trumpet virtuoso Ingrid Jensen and Helen Sung (world-class pianist) will be coming from New York City, guitarist Albanie Falletta (based in New Orleans), vocalist Susanna Sharpe, and vocalist Suzi Stern. The evening concludes with pianist Peggy Stern’s Estrella Salsa in a jam with all the players.

5 PM: Albanie Falletta Trio, featuring Masumi Jones

6 PM: Susanna Sharpe Brazilian Quartet

7 PM: Ingrid Jensen Quartet

8 PM: Helen Sung Trio

9 PM: Estrella Salsa, featuring Suzi Stern, Joey Colarusso, Ingrid Jensen, Daniel Durham, Michael Longoria and Peggy Stern

The workshops will focus on basic jazz improv skills, not only for students already into jazz, but also those who are classically trained and think they might enjoy improvisation.

The workshops will be instrument specific: Piano (Helen Sung); Trumpet (Ingrid Jensen); Vocals (Suzi Stern); Drums (Masumi Jones).

12-1:30 PM in the Carriage House (music building at St. Ed’s).

2-3:30PM: Masterclass will be held in Jones Auditorium, the building adjacent.

Austin got featured on JAL Skyword magazine!

Posted on September 7, 2016 at 12:00 AM

JAL (Japan Airline)'s original magazine on the plane 'Skyword Magazine' features interesting cities every monthly issue, and because they will start Austin-Japan direst flight sharing code with one of USA airline(sorry, I don't know which airline!), they featured Austin! And I had an interview with them a couple of month ago. Since this magazine is available to read only on the JAL airplane, I wasn't sure what's going on till one of my Japanese friend posted these pictures on Facebook, and said he found me on the magazine in JAL airplane on the trip!! Thanks for careful traveler!!

日本航空の機内誌9月号にオースティンの街が紹介されています。その中には私のインタビューも載せていただいているようなので、もしJAL に乗る予定のある方、ぜひ座席ポケットに入っているスカイワード誌をひらいてみてください!

G.G. 2/3 Japan tour was big success!

Posted on May 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM

I came back from Japan!!

I had a couple of gigs with Takana Miyamoto(p) and Kenji Shimada(b), so we called it G.G. 2/3!!

And I reunited with my PTA band which was based on my son's elementaly school PTA board members back in 2006-2008 during my service as a vice PTA president.

Then, I participated to 60th anniversary concert of Waseda Univ. High Society Orchestra! I reunited many friends in college big band in Tokyo, met older and younger alumnis, about 160 musicians shared stage, in 9 big bands! It was something.
